Location: Can work on-site in any of these locations: Warrenton, VA / Winchester, VA / Sterling, VA

Assignment type: Permanent hire

Compensation: $70,000 - $85,000

Work Schedule: M-F 9-5

Job Description:

Our client is seeking a Payroll Specialist to join their team. This position will be responsible for supporting full-cycle payroll processing for hourly and salaried employees in a fast-paced, project-based environment. The ideal candidate will have experience handling union payroll, maintaining payroll accuracy, and ensuring compliance with payroll laws and reporting requirements. This is a great opportunity for someone who is detail-oriented, proactive, and able to step in quickly to support a growing organization.

Key responsibilities include:

• Processing weekly and/or bi-weekly payroll for hourly and salaried employees
• Ensuring accurate calculation of wages, overtime, deductions, taxes, and benefits
• Maintaining payroll records and ensuring data accuracy and integrity
• Processing union payroll in accordance with collective bargaining agreements
• Calculating and tracking union dues, fringe benefits, and related contributions
• Supporting payroll reporting, reconciliations, and audit requests
• Handling payroll for field-based employees, including labor allocations and job costing support
• Assisting with certified payroll reporting and prevailing wage compliance when applicable
• Utilizing payroll systems to process payroll and generate reports for management
• Responding to employee payroll questions and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner
• Supporting year-end payroll activities, including W-2 preparation and related processes
• Ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations

Qualified candidates will have:

• 3+ years of payroll experience
• Experience processing union payroll
• Experience working in construction, contracting, or other project-based environments
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Experience with UKG required; Paylocity experience is a plus
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
