The Video Producer at the New York City Council is responsible for conceptualizing and executing videos from start to finish for the New York City Council’s digital platforms. The role will focus on using the visual medium of video to translate public policy and government activity into engaging videos for the New York City Council’s social media.
The ideal candidate will be a creative, self-starter with an abundance of out-of-the-box ideas to communicate messaging from the New York City Council. Candidates should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and responding to real-time communications needs. The ideal candidate will be able to work as one-person operation, ensuring high quality camera work, audio and editing.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Conceptualize videos from first pitch to final export, ensuring a consistent vision throughout the entire process.
· Create a variety of types of videos – from “Reels-style” vertical videos to horizontal cinematic longer-form videos.
· Lead all aspects of video production, including filming, audio mixing, editing, and post-production.
· Assist in planning long-term video strategy.
· Capture footage of the Speaker and other New York City Council Members at events and edit it into accessible and engaging content.
· Edit and subtitle/caption news and hearing clips quickly.
· Lead direct-to-camera shoots with principals, including Council Members and the Speaker.
· Follow current video trends and utilize them in video creation.
· Manage video project timelines and ensure deadlines are met.
· Ensure all videos meet quality standards and brand guidelines.
· Manage multiple projects simultaneously.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· 5+ years of experience in video production.
· Bachelor’s degree in Film, Video Production, or related field.
· Proficient in Adobe Premiere, DaVinci Resolve or a similar editing software.
· Working knowledge of motion graphics software such as Adobe After Effects.
· Knowledge of camera and lighting equipment, including mirrorless cameras.
· Comfortable in directing elected-officials on-camera.
· Proven ability to translate tough concepts through a visual lens.
· Ability to work under tight deadlines and produce videos with short turnaround time.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
· Portfolio of previous video production work.
· Ability to conceptualize and execute creative video ideas.
· Experience in creating video for government-accounts a plus.
