Job Description

The Lampasas Dispatch Record is seeking a full-time Sports Editor. The successful candidate will lead sports coverage for Lampasas County’s hometown newspaper while also contributing to general news coverage as needed. Recent college journalism graduates are encouraged to apply.
Duties:

• Serve as the primary reporter and editor for high school and local sports.

• Write game stories, features, columns and previews on deadline.

• Shoot and edit action photography for print and digital.

• Manage the sports section for the print edition, published twice weekly, and the website.

• Take on general news assignments as needed.

• Build relationships with coaches, athletic directors, school officials and community sources.

• Help grow the newspaper’s digital and social media sports audience.

Requirements:

• Recent college journalism or communications graduates are strongly encouraged to apply.

• One to three years of experience preferred but not required.

• Strong writing, reporting and photography skills.

• Knowledge of AP style.

• Experience with digital photography and basic photo editing.

• Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.

• Reliable transportation and a valid Texas driver’s license.
