Job Description

We are looking for a Director of Athletics for an international high school in Shanghai. This position is available from the upcoming 2026–27 academic year in February 2026.About the schoolThe Shanghai campus, part of a co-educational institution with schools across China, offers rigorous academic programs designed to prepare students for higher education abroad. With modern facilities and a curriculum that integrates global perspectives and local cultural heritage, the school emphasizes leadership, cross-cultural understanding, and ethical decision-making. Graduates are equipped with the skills and mindset to excel in universities worldwide and contribute meaningfully to their communities.Job responsibilitiesDesign, lead, and oversee a comprehensive athletics program for the whole school, aligned with the school’s mission and valuesRecruit, support, and supervise coaches; provide guidance and feedback to ensure high-quality coaching and positive student experiencesPlan and coordinate inter-school competitions, leagues, and tournaments; represent the school in local, regional, and international athletic associationsDevelop, publish, and manage practice and competition schedules for all school teamsEnsure student safety and risk management for all on-campus and off-campus athletic activities, in line with school policies and protocolsOversee the maintenance, usage, and development of athletic facilities, ensuring equipment is safe, fit for purpose, and properly storedManage the athletics budget, including purchasing, maintenance, and event-related expensesCollaborate closely with the Student Affairs Office, academic leadership, and co-curricular teams to integrate athletics into wider school lifePromote the wellbeing of student-athletes, encouraging sportsmanship, leadership, and a healthy balance between academic commitments and athletic participation Job requirementsBachelor’s degree or above in Physical Education, Sports Management, or a related fieldStrong experience in school or youth athletics (team or programme leadership preferred)Proven ability to organise sports teams, schedules, and eventsConfident communicator who can work well with students, parents, coaches, and school leaderSalary and benefitsCompetitive monthly salary commensurate with experience and qualificationsHousing allowance and additional benefits in line with school policyFully paid winter and summer holidays in accordance with the school calendarPublic holidays in line with Chinese regulationsComprehensive medical insuranceAnnual flight allowance
