Café Kitchen Cook

A Taste of Britain | Wayne, PA

If your experience comes from a busy café, sandwich shop, fast-casual restaurant, bakery café, grocery prepared-food department, convenience-food operation, or similar high-volume foodservice environment , you may be exactly who we're looking for.

A Taste of Britain is a busy daytime tea room and café specializing in afternoon tea, sandwiches, salads, soups, and British-inspired favorites.

This is not a traditional restaurant line-cook position—but it is a fast-paced kitchen position.

We don't operate a conventional hot line with multiple sauté, grill, and fry stations. During service, our kitchen is focused primarily on assembling, finishing with a TurboChef, and beautifully plating food to order while keeping up with a steady flow of tickets.

When we're busy, we're busy. We're looking for someone who understands what it means to work through a real lunch rush —reading tickets, prioritizing orders, communicating with teammates, working with urgency, and getting accurate, consistent food to the window on time.

Our kitchen team prepares and serves:

• Sandwiches and tea sandwiches
• Salads
• Scratch-made soups
• Full afternoon tea service
• Café and lunch items
• House-made ingredients and accompaniments
• High-volume catering and takeout orders

We're Also a Scratch Kitchen

While much of this position during service involves assembly, finishing, and plating, A Taste of Britain is a scratch kitchen.

We make many of our foods, fillings, soups, dressings, accompaniments, baked goods, and other components in-house. Depending on the day and production needs, you'll also assist with prep and production of our scratch-made menu items.

So while experience in a fast-casual or high-volume foodservice environment translates extremely well to this position, this isn't simply opening bags and assembling prepackaged food. There's real food preparation happening here, and we take pride in what we make.

Who Does Well Here

Some of our most successful team members have come from fast-casual restaurants, cafés, sandwich shops, bakeries, grocery prepared-food departments, convenience stores, and other organized, high-volume foodservice operations.

Experience in environments similar to Chipotle, Panera, Wawa, Dunkin', café kitchens, deli counters, or sandwich shops can translate very well to our operation.

We're particularly interested in people who have experience fulfilling orders during a busy rush and understand how to stay organized when tickets are coming in quickly.

You should be comfortable:

• Reading and working multiple tickets simultaneously
• Prioritizing orders and maintaining a sense of urgency
• Assembling food quickly and accurately
• Following established recipes, builds, portions, and presentation standards
• Communicating with teammates to keep service moving
• Maintaining a clean and organized workstation during a rush
• Performing basic knife work and scratch-food preparation
• Maintaining excellent food-safety standards
• Producing the same high-quality product every time

You do not need years of traditional fine-dining or high-volume restaurant line experience to succeed here.
