SNA International is seeking an Analytical Toxicologist 1 (AT1) to work as a federal contractor within the Armed Forces Medical Examiner System. The successful candidate will serve as a bench level analyst for the Division of Forensic Toxicology in the Human Performance/Postmortem section within the lab. The position will provide screening and confirmation data, quantitative data, full scan mass spectra analysis, corrective action measures, standard operating procedures (SOP) improvements and revisions, participate in research programs, and perform all special testing as directed by laboratory management. 

 

***This is a 100% onsite position in Dover, DE
 
Critical Work Responsibilities Include:  

  • Spectrophotometric carbon monoxide analysis 
    Color tests for cyanide, salicylate and acetaminophen 
    Gas chromatography screening techniques including: 
    basic drugs 
    - carbon monoxide 
    - cyanide and headspace volatiles analyze
  • Basic, acid and neutral drug extractions via solid phase or liquid/liquid 
  • Basic knowledge of immunoassay methodology 
  • Basic knowledge of mass spectrometry and compound fragmentation 
  • Basic knowledge of quantitative analysis 
  • Basic knowledge of instrumental analysis 
  • Mass Spectrometry (Basic) 
  • Gas chromatography/Mass spectrometry
  • Liquid chromatography/Mass spectrometry
  • Tandem mass spectrometry
  • Maintain an accurate written record of all analyses performed and ensure proper archiving of records
  • Ensure that specimens are properly received into the laboratory, an accurate chain of custody is established and maintained, specimens are accessioned, specimens are aliquoted for subsequent testing and logged into the Toxicology Database.
  • Participate in laboratory analysis programs including routine instrument maintenance, analysis of quality control specimens, preparation for laboratory inspections from certifying and accrediting agencies, and in maintaining laboratory facilities and equipment in operating condition and reporting discrepancies and possible solutions to supervisory staff.
  • Participate in Laboratory Analysis Programs including the evaluation of laboratory tandard operating procedures (SOP) and ensuring laboratory compliance with those standards.  This involves reporting SOP discrepancies to supervisory staff.
  • Calibrate instruments, prepare reagents and samples for testing, complete testing and prepare written reports for supervisory staff
  • Evaluation of instruments, extractions, analysis protocols, and data review.
  • Complete research projects as assigned.
  • Maintain logs of analyses performed, equipment problems and solutions, temperature logs and equipment operation logs.
  • Maintain the laboratory in a mission readiness status at all times; this requires the analyst to be aware of existing and potential problems concerning laboratory safety, equipment operation, maintain supply readiness and other critical laboratory functions.
  • Handle hazardous materials and waste, ensuring proper safety precautions are taken in storing and disposition of these materials.
  • Authorship in peer reviewed journal and/or presentation of scientific data.
  • Perform other job-related duties appropriate to the Division mission as assigned 

 

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:  

  • B.S. or M.S.in Science-related field (e.g., chemistry, biology, Forensics etc.) 
  • Candidate Must be a US citizen able to complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NAC-I) background investigation.
